Are You a Troublemaker or a Peacemaker?
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God." – Matthew 5:9
Conflict is everywhere. Whether in our homes, workplaces, communities, or even in our churches, tension is inevitable. But in the face of conflict, we all have a choice: Will we be troublemakers or peacemakers?
The Difference Between a Troublemaker and a Peacemaker
A troublemaker stirs division. They thrive on gossip, instigate arguments, and hold grudges. They are quick to take offense and slow to forgive. Their words spark fires instead of putting them out.
A peacemaker, on the other hand, seeks unity. They don’t avoid conflict, but they approach it with wisdom, love, and a desire for reconciliation. Peacemakers build bridges instead of walls. They listen before they speak, forgive even when it’s hard, and choose grace over retaliation.
What It Means to Be a Peacemaker
Being a peacemaker doesn’t mean being passive or ignoring wrongdoing. Jesus Himself, the Prince of Peace, confronted sin and stood for truth, but He always did so with love and the goal of restoration.
To be a peacemaker means:
Choosing love over bitterness – Letting go of resentment and extending forgiveness even when it’s undeserved.
Speaking truth in love – Addressing issues with kindness instead of hostility.
Seeking reconciliation – Taking the first step to mend broken relationships, even when it’s uncomfortable.
Praying for peace – Asking God to give us wisdom and patience in difficult situations.
The Reward of a Peacemaker
Jesus said peacemakers "shall be called sons of God." Why? Because they reflect the character of their Heavenly Father. God is a God of peace, and when we choose to be peacemakers, we show that we are His children.
So, ask yourself: Am I a troublemaker or a peacemaker? Do my words and actions bring division or healing?
In a world full of strife, be the one who brings peace. You never know how much your kindness, patience, and willingness to reconcile can change someone’s life—and even your own.
Which will you choose today?
